Piermont, NH- Scott L. Sayers, 86 yrs., of Dartmouth College Highway, died in his home on Wednesday May 19, 2021. Born November 9, 1934 at home in Groton VT, he was the son of Fred H. Sayers and Helen (Mace) Sayers. He graduated valedictorian from Groton High School, Class of 1954. Scott married Martha Jane Nelson on August 21, 1955. He joined the US Army in August 1955 and served in the Korean War as a Specialist Third Class. He was discharged in August 1957. Scott and Martha brought the dairy farm in Piermont on Route 10 and started a family. He retired from farming in 2003 and rented the farm out. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. He was also a member of Piermont Congregational Church. He enjoyed delivering meals with his friend, Rob Elder, for the Horse Meadow Senior Center for many years. He enjoyed his family, friends, farming, playing cards and checkers.
Scott was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Helen Sayers; his wife Martha; his brother Eric Sayers; three sisters Ida Bushway, Pearl Whitehill and Hazel Sayers; and son-in-law George Watrous. He is survived by daughter Cindy Watrous of Orwell, VT; son Larry Sayers of Bellows Falls, VT; grandson Jacob Watrous and wife Heather of Rutland, VT and granddaughter Lindsey Walker and her husband Matthew Walker of Poultney, VT and their three daughters Natalie, Lorelei and Valerie and granddaughter Megan Watrous BVMS of Lampeter, Wales. He is also survived by three sisters, Shirley McLure and husband Paul from Johnson, VT, Betty Fargo from Quaker Hill, CT and Linda Goodrich from Lyme, NH; as well as great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH on Thursday, May 27 th from 6-7 PM.
A funeral service will be in the Piermont Congregational Church, on Friday, May 28 th at 3 PM with Rev. Malcolm Kircher officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery in Piermont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made Piermont Congregational Church.
