Sharon A. Huyler (Haycook), 74, Groton, Sunday July 5, 2026, at Cottage Hospital. Born May 1, 1952, to Robert and Marion Haycook (Rowinski) in Paterson NJ then growing up in West Paterson. There she met what would turn out to be a lifelong best friend, Kathy. Sharon enjoyed dance lessons, relying on her mom for costumes who custom made all of them. She graduated from Passaic Valley High School, then went on to enroll in the Hackensack Hospital Nursing School. Her passion was emergency care, and she worked in the emergency room.

In 1977, she met her future husband, Tom. In October of 1978 they married and built a home in Montville NJ, and raised two children. Sharon fell ill with MS after giving birth the last time. Unable to work outside the home, she embraced the role as a stay-at-home mom. She was happiest when she was wrist deep in soil in her garden. Her gardens were where she thrived. Always an animal lover, she and her family were never pet free, she was always quick with a story about a pet that had long since passed. The thing she was most proud of was she learned to horseback ride, before age 55.

Later, with her husband’s retirement, they moved to Groton in 2004. She is survived by her husband of 48 yrs, Tom of Groton; son Robert and his wife Melissa of Vernon CT; sole grandchild Cam of Groton, VT; brother Robert Haycook and wife Dawn of Topsham VT; nephew Dan Jones (Haycook), his husband Justin and son Nieko, of Lewes, DE. She is predeceased by her daughter, Lisa Huyler Groton, VT; favorite dogs Rubble and Jack; and cats Twigs and Max.

There will be no memorial service. At a later date there will be a celebration of life. If you feel the need to send flowers or donate, please don't. She would want you all to share a funny story or a story how she touched you in life. She will forever be in our heart.
