Obituary

Warren, NH – Shirley M. Bennett, 75, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. She was born in Bradford, VT, in 1936, and grew up in Glencliff, NH, under the loving care of Clara and Leon Gould. Shirley graduated from Woodsville High School in 1954 and obtained a Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Moore General Hospital in 1956. She married Wayne Evans of Warren in 1957 and they raised three daughters. Shirley was a nurse most of her life. Always an advocate for patients' rights, her vision came to fruition with the founding of Gould House, an assisted living facility in Plymouth, NH, in 1986. She served one term as a Representative in the New Hampshire State Legislature. Her last eight professional years were spent as a Case Manager with Beacon Hospice in Beverly, MA. Shirley loved music and dancing and directed the youth church choir at Warren United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Jensen of Manchester, NH, Diane Evans Mack of McCall, ID, and Donna Lukasiak of Bedford, NH; four grandchildren; and extended family, including her former husband, Wayne Evans. At Shirley's request, there will be no public services. The family will be holding a private memorial later in the summer. Donations in her memory may be made to the local hospice organization of one's choice.
