Bath, NH- Shirley C. Peters, 99, formerly of Windy Hill Road, died on Monday, April 9, 2018, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH.
Shirley was born in Charleston, VT on August 21, 1918, a daughter of Carroll and Flora (Davis) Cushman. She was a graduate of Wells River (VT) High School and of the Brightlook School of Nursing, St. Johnsbury, VT.
Shirley married Waldo V. "Buster" Peters on March 2, 1941. When courting, she and Buster road horseback to Charleston, VT which was a two day adventure.
Along with Buster, they owned and operated the Peters Farm on Windy Hill, a farm that has been in the family since 1918. Shirley was also a nurse at the Grafton County Home prior to working at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. She retired after fifty years of nursing. Following her retirement, she volunteered in the gift shop at Cottage Hospital and at the Bath Village School. Over the years, Shirley enjoyed baking for the bus tour visitors who came to Bath each autumn. She was a long-time member of the Bath Congregational Church and the East Charleston, VT Historical Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, Buster Peters on December 18, 1998; two sisters, Beryl Lougee and Ruth Bruillard; and a son-in-law, Robert Anderson.
She is survived by her children, Erroll S. Peters and wife, Gail of Landaff, NH, Gary R. Peters and wife, Sandra of Bath, Steve K. Peters and Mary of Oklahoma City, OK, Nancy L. Anderson of New Hartford, CT, James C. Peters of Bath, and Susan J. Winsor and husband William of Newark, VT; 17 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren; a half-sister, Phyllis; a half-brother, Paul Sawyer of Windsor, CT; a brother-in-law, Brian Peters and wife Jane of Alabama; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 19 from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH.
A funeral service will be on Friday, April 20 at 11 AM at Ricker Funeral Home, with Pastor Wayne Chevalier, officiating.
Burial in Bath Village Cemetery will be observed by the family at their convenience.
