Piermont, NH Stanley Richard Dick Smith Sr., 84, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the V. A. Medical Hospital in White River Junction, VT. He was born in Lyme, NH, July 7, 1927, the son of Albert Dennis Smith and Josephine (Thompson) Smith Roberts. Dick served with the U. S. Army during World War II from December 22, 1945 to December 24, 1948. He married Mary Cummings and she predeceased him on October 18, 1986. Later he married Doris Quackenbush on May 27, 1989. During Dick s career he worked as a foreman at the heel factory in Wilder, VT and for many years he worked at the Tullando Farm in Orford. He served as a police officer in the Town of Orford. Later he was the custodian at the Orford High School and worked at Camp Moosilauke in Orford prior to his retirement. Dick loved the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing and watching Nascar. He also loved the time spent with his family and friends, and his beloved Golden Retrievers Barney and Sonny. He was also predeceased by a son, Stanley Smith, Jr. on October 16, 2007 and a sister, Verna Smith Tallman. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Doris (Quackenbush) Smith of Piermont, NH; his children, Glenda Smith of North Richland Hills, TX, Karen Nystrom and husband Alden of Wentworth, NH, Michelle Pushee and husband David of North Haverhill, NH, and Dennis Smith and wife Darcy of Wilder, VT; step children, Harrison Pease of Orford, Gene Pease of North Haverhill, Carol Pease of Thornton, NH, Janet Hardy and husband Paul of South Strafford, VT, and Sheryl Tallman and husband John of Etna, NH; ten grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; several great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; two sisters, Janice Giantonio and Audrey Connors; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, January 21 from 10 to 11 AM with a funeral service to begin at 11 AM, at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH, with Rev. Jane E. Wilson, from the Orford Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Orford Street Cemetery, Orford, NH.
