Obituary

Stephen Paul Martel, 36, West Topsham, VT, gained his wings on Tuesday December 28, 2021.  He was born in Haverhill, NH on February 10, 1985, to Gary P. Martel and Pamela Boughton.

Stephen was born with disabilities, but it never kept him from being a beautiful child and a productive adult.  He enjoyed skiing, fishing, going to the library to see Audrey Clough and check out books, and music as well as his work, and the opportunity to earn a paycheck, with parttime jobs like cleaning offices.  He also spent many hours volunteering at the senior center, the food bank and meals on wheels.  His love for music was grand and he would dance and belt out the lyrics of "Winds of Change" at Willy and Joanne Applebees.  All of this was made possible by the generous care and support of many people and organizations, including Northern Human Services, White Mountain Mental Health, Common Ground, Tru Granite, Life Transitions, and Adaptive Sports.

Stephen is predeceased by two uncles Roy Paul Martel and Russell W. Hitchcook, an aunt Celeste Rheaume and his grandparents Patricia A. Darling, Paul and Natalie Martel. He is survived by his parents, Gary P. Martel and his wife Brenda, of North Haverhill and Pamela Boughton of Deep River, CT, a brother, Christopher Martel and his wife Cynthia, nephew and niece Trent and Mavis of Wirtz, VA, a sister, Melaina Martel of Center Brook, CT, two uncles, John P. Martel of North Haverhill, and Joseph P. Martel and wife Jennifer of Woodsville, three aunts, Alison Darling of Woodsville, Mary T. Colby of North Haverhill, and Theresa A. Dandurand and husband David of Mountain Lakes, NH, many loving cousins, several Home Providers, including, Dave and Deb Fullerton, Wayne and Sherry Bearce, Jen and Keith Hatch, and Karen Smith, service coordinators, Paula Ball, and Billie Jo Kimber, Life Transitions service program managers Jeff Maerder and Shelly Messenger, and the many Life Coaches, especially Joel Katz, as well as dozens of friends, support and respite people.

The family is thankful for the Bayada Hospice team for your care and support during the final months of Stephen's life, and a special heartfelt thankyou to Karen and Claire and their family for the wonderful care they provided Stephen before and during his illness.  God bless everyone that worked with and cared for Stephen over his lifetime.
