Obituary

Danville, VT- Stephen Charles White, 70, died on May 17, 2010, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT. Stephen was born in Bristol, CT on January 8, 1940, to Everett C. and Grace (Gearing) White. He graduated from Peacham Academy in 1958 and from Johnson State College in 1982. Following his marriage to Marcia Livingston on March 14, 1959, he entered the US Army and served as a Chaplain s Assistant for three years. Steve was a self-employed building contractor and later worked for NCMC in St. Johnsbury. He retired as the Administrator for the Town of Danville in 2002. Stephen was a member of the Peacham Congregational Church where he served as a Deacon and on the business committee and church council. He was also active in supporting the church youth group. He served as a volunteer and is a former Chief of the Peacham Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 43 year member and former Master of the Washburn Lodge #92 F&AM of Danville and was a District Deputy of the Grand Lodge of Vermont. However, his greatest passion was for his community and its youth. He coached Little League for 15 years and worked with the Babe Ruth League and youth basketball. Along with his good friend, Jim Craig, they opened the Peacham Ski Tow and operated it for several years. They also reestablished and reopened the Peacham gym. He was involved with the Fourth of July events and initiating Green-Up Day in Peacham. Following his retirement, he spent countless hours supporting his grandchildren s events at school, with sports, and generally enjoying their friendship. He enjoyed the time spent at the camp on Martin s Pond and traveling with friends Mac and Mary Wright of Indiana. He was predeceased by his father Everett on October 26, 1986, his mother Grace on June 28, 2002, and by two grandchildren Randy Michael White and Nicole Rae White. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcia White of Danville; four sons, Daniel M. and wife Cindy, Richard E. and wife Jill, and Darren H. and wife Ann, all of Danville, and Jeremy S. and wife Sarah of Peacham; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister Patricia Kavalski of New Britain, CT; a brother David N. Buck White and wife Mary of Barnet, VT; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 1 PM at the Peacham Congregational Church with Rev. Dr. Robert A. Potter, officiating. Burial will follow in the Peacham Cemetery, concluding with a Masonic service by Washburn Masonic Lodge.
