Obituary

Stephen Allen Whitney, 71 of Bath, passed away at his home on April 3rd, 2026. Born in Woodsville on June 30th, 1954, Stephen was the son of John Ash and Rachel M. (Knapp) Whitney. He grew up on a farm in Bath and graduated from Woodsville High School in 1972, afterwards receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Plymouth State College in 1976.

Stephen worked at various jobs after college. In 1986, he went to work for the Grafton County Dept. Of Corrections, where he was actively involved in the Operation Impact Program, which helped Young People avoid bad lifestyle choices and self-destructive behavior. He retired from the County in 2012.

A lifelong resident of Bath and very civic-minded, Stephen served many years on numerous committees and boards for the town of Bath, including the Zoning Board, the Budget Committee, and as a Cemetery Commissioner.

One of Stephen's interests was Freemasonry. He was a member for many years, held several offices, and became a 33° Mason in 2001.

During the 1990's, Stephen and Maureen Dexter of Littleton wed and later divorced. In 2009, he married Teresa Rodimon of Piermont, and they enjoyed their lives together until her passing in 2018. Stephen had a great sense of humor and was a kind soul, always willing to help others in need. His presence will be missed by many friends and relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents, John A and Rachel M. Whitney, and his wife, Teresa Whitney.

He is survived by his brother, John H. Whitney of Bath; his sister, Barbara J. Whitney of Somersworth; numerous cousins; the family of his late wife, Teresa; his 1st wife, Maureen Dexter; and his faithful dog, Scooter.

A memorial service at the Bath Congregational Church will be held on May 13th at 1 PM. A special thank you to North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency for all the help provided during Stephen's last days.
