Bancroft
January 23, 2023
Master Sergeant Steven A. Bancroft Air Force Retired, 68, of Warren, NH passed away on Monday Jan. 23, 2023, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center following surgery due to underlying health issues. Steve was born Sept. 23, 1954, in Tripoli, Libya to Robert A. and Marjorie (Moore) Bancroft.
Steve was a graduate of Woodsville High School class of 1972. He joined the Air Force right out of High School and retired after 20 years. While stationed at Hahn Air Force Base in Germany he met Anita. They married in 1977. They had two sons together and later divorced but remained good friends.
As a boy he showed an early interest in aviation making many model airplanes. He was a Boy Scout, and a member of the Knights of Pythias in Warren.
Steve was very close to his cousin Kenneth. As teenagers they took over a trash removal business from their older cousin Earl. After his retirement from the Air Force Steve drove for Harold Ives Trucking in Arkansas before moving back to Warren to be closer to his father and other relatives. There, he operated and owned his own trucking company, Breezy Point Transportation.
Steve was an avid reader, lover of animals, domestic and wild. Described by many as gentle and kind. He shared his home with two cats that he rescued, Julia and Orca, kittens born to a stray he was feeding.
Steve participated in the yearly Veteran programs and luncheons held at Warren Village School, enjoying the interest shown by the kids and loved playing board games with his grandchildren. He was also a Warren Historical Society member.
He is survived by his two sons, Christopher Bancroft (Tiffany) of Benton, AR and Andrew Bancroft (Candice) of Bentonville, AR; three grandchildren, Noah, Alexia and Olivia; his sister Cynthia Conrad (Peter) of Haverhill, NH; one uncle, Gordon Moore of Ohio; one aunt, Vivian Moore of NH and several cousins.
Steven was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie in 1987 and father Robert in 2011.
There will be graveside service on June 17 at 10:00 AM at Pine Hill Cemetery in Warren, NH, a celebration of life to follow.
