Obituary

McIndoe Falls, VT - Sylvia Erma (Field) Evans, 90, died Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH following a period of declining health. She was born in Peacham, VT, August 16, 1925, a daughter of Benjamin F. and Helen (Miles) Field, and was a 1943 graduate of Peacham Academy. For 24 years Sylvia worked as a Data Control Clerk for the former St. Johnsbury Trucking Company. Sylvia was a member of the Barnet Congregational Church. She was self-taught on the piano and served as the church's organist for many years. Volunteering at the church's wild game suppers for 23 years, Sylvia's moose meat loaf was a favorite dish. She sang with the North Country Chorus for eight years and the Mello Tones Quartet for fifteen years. For over 40 years, she was a member of the Lakeview Grange # 359, where she directed and participated in the Grange Hee-Haw Shows. She wrote and directed two Barnet Bicentennial shows, Barnet Remembers and Barnet of Yesteryear. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Clayton. Sylvia married Clayton M. Evans on August 16, 1946. They were married for 59 years and he predeceased her of March 1, 2006. She was also predeceased by her parents and her sisters, June F. Darling and Mildred F. Twombly. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and sister to the following family members: her children, David F. Evans and wife Diane of Peacham, Lois E. Kinerson and husband Richard of West Barnet, and Judy E. Butson and husband Kenneth of Barnet; five grandsons and one granddaughter; thirteen great granddaughters and one great grandson; and two great great granddaughters; two sisters, Lorna Field Quimby and husband Richard of Peacham and Patricia Field McLam of West Barnet; and two sisters in law Marilyn Stef and Kathy Evans, both living in Florida; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday, October 10th at 1 PM at the Barnet Congregational Church, Barnet, VT with burial to follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Barnet.
