Obituary

Monroe, NH- Thomas A. Guganig, 70, of Woodsville Road, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. Tom was born in Haverhill, NH, on January 17, 1941, to Donald W. and Laura (Griffin) Guganig. In 1960, he graduated from McIndoe Falls Academy. He then joined the US Navy, serving aboard the carrier, USS Lake Champlain. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he entered Emerson College in Boston and received his BA and Masters Degrees in Mass Communication. For 25 years, he was the manager of the television studio at Emerson College, retiring in 2006. Tom lived in Everett, MA for many years prior to retiring to the family home in Monroe. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Woodsville. He was a member of the McIndoe Falls Academy Alumni Association and worked to complete the digital archiving on the history of the Academy. Tom was also a member of the National Association of Broadcasters, the People of Promise Community of Belmont, MA, and attended the Monroe Men's Club. His many projects included photography, videography, editing, and historical videotaping and archiving. He is survived by two sisters, Donna Guganig Baden of Malden, MA and Denise Guganig Streeter and husband Art of Rochester, NY; a brother, Fred G. Chandler and wife Ethel of Hixson, TN; his nieces and nephews, Robert Baden and partner Thomas Army of Malden, Katherine Streeter and Christopher Burns of Rochester, Alexander Streeter and wife Hilary and their daughter Brynna of Concord, NH, Jeff Chandler and wife Patti of Glen Burnie, MD, and Donald Chandler and wife Sue of Soddy Daisy, TN; and many cousins. Calling hours will be Friday, May 20th from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 21st at 10 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville, with Father Jeffrey Statz officiating. Burial will follow in the Monroe Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to either Cottage Hospital, PO Box 2001, Woodsville, NH 03785 or to the New England Organ Bank, 60 First Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451.
