Obituary

Woodsville, NH -- Vaudie Mae Adams Martin Smith died October 17, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Born December 11, 1927 in Winnsboro, Louisiana, Mae graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing in 1948 with her R.N. licensure. She worked as a nurse in Bakersfield, California, until 1966, when she returned to Louisiana, working for Glenwood Hospital in West Monroe, retiring in 1980 from G.B. Cooley Hospital in West Monroe. In 2006, she left her home in Monroe to live with her son in Woodsville, New Hampshire. Mae was an avid puzzle-worker and spent every morning with the newspaper crossword and hours solving it over the phone with her beloved sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty Martin of West Monroe. Mae had a large heart and was always doing good deeds and providing for others less fortunate. Throughout her life, all who came in contact with her were struck by her spirit of giving and generosity. She was a member of the Jackson Street Church of Christ in Monroe for many years prior to her move to New England. Mae was predeceased by her first husband, Ernest E. Martin, in 1978, and her second, Thomas B. Smith, in 1988. Surviving are her son, Charles E. Martin of Woodsville, New Hampshire, a sister, Geneva Robinson of San Antonio, Texas, and two grandchildren, Rachelle Rennagel of Los Angeles, California, and Christophe DeGregory, of Portland, Maine. There are no services planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Country Home Health and Hospice Agency, 536 Cottage Street, Littleton, NH 03561.
