Obituary

Wentworth, NH- Victor A. "Dick" Brooks, 95, of Wentworth, NH died March 10, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. He was a former resident of Jeffers Hill Road in Pike, NH.  He was born on November 4, 1926, to Olin C. and Persis C. (Dearth) Brooks in Haverhill, NH.  On December 27, 1949, he married the love of his life, Emily Gay.

Over the years, Dick worked for Caledonia Sand & Gravel in Concord, VT, and farmed for 20 years, he then went on to work in Blake's Creamery for 26 years. From 1974 to 1978 he worked in the Haverhill schools and later was the custodian at the Woodsville, Littleton, and Plymouth Armories. Dick was a hard worker until he finally retired at 70 years old.

He was a former member of the Connecticut Valley Snowmobile Club from 1960 to 1970's. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting for whitetail deer, panning for gold in the wild Ammonusuc River, raised a large herd of red deer, and was always learning and enjoying the history of Pike, Haverhill, and East Haverhill, NH. He was an avid race fan, mostly stock car racing. He worked with several racing teams throughout Bear Ridge in Bradford, VT, Thunder Road, in Barre, VT, and White Mountain Motor Sports in North Woodstock, NH.  He loved his wife, Emily, and they could dance so well together.

He is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Emily G. (Gay) Brooks on April 28, 1998; a son Vic Arthur Brooks, on October 27, 1955; four brothers Frank, Douglas, Austin, and Olin Brooks; and two sisters, Mary Hutchins, and Persis Moses, and his beloved dogs Jackie and Hugo.

He is survived by his seven children: his sons, Victor Brooks, Jr., of Reno, NV, and Barry Brooks, of Groton, VT, and his daughters, Sally Merrill, of Manchester, NH, Brenda and John Fijalkowski, of Kingston, NH, Vicki and Grover Libby, of Warren, NH, Diana and Alan Thoroughgood, of Wentworth, NH, and Helen Bittorf of Perryopolis, PA; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Dick's Life will be held on Friday March 18, 2022 at 10 AM at Ricker Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Woodsville, 1 Birch St. Woodsville, NH, with Melissa Gould as Celebrant, concluded by at time for friends and family to visit and remember.  Interment will be held privately in the spring.
