Obituary

Vincent (Vinnie) Joseph Aliberti 89, of Wells River, Vermont, died at his home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, after a 20-year struggle with dementia.

The son of Italian immigrants, Vinnie was born on August 21, 1934, in Willimantic, CT to Antonio Aliberti and Foresta (Caroti) Aliberti. He was a 1954 graduate of Boardman Trade School in New Haven, CT. Vinnie was a truck mechanic by trade and for many years owned and operated Circle A Automotive in Hamden, CT. He later owned and operated Vin's Vehicle Service Inc, a fire apparatus repair service. He was the first ASE-certified fire apparatus mechanic in Connecticut. Because of his reputation for service and quality, he ended his work life servicing many, if not most of, the small towns in Connecticut.

Vinnie was gregarious, authentic, and a generous, available, friend. He was a man of his word; his strong handshake was his promise. He was Italian through and through. He had a taste for good wine and good food and was a talented cook. His specialty, of course, Italian! He enjoyed vegetable gardening and grew prize-winning tomatoes. He enjoyed dancing, parties and entertaining. He organized annual "Italian Nights", potato barrel contests, Easter Egg Hunts, neighborhood block parties, and autumn hayrides. Vin was a reader – two newspapers a day and a book or two a week. Finally, and most importantly, Vin was a giver. He looked out for others whether they needed it or not. And to those who needed help, he gave more. He attended to his mother's, father's, and stepfather's every need until their deaths. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, and the many caregivers who helped look after him during his long fight with dementia. Though ultimately severely diminished by dementia and essentially non-verbal, his giving soul shined through to the end. He gave to and loved others through a look, a fleeting smile of gratitude, or most amazingly an occasional, albeit faltering "I love you" or "thank you".

He leaves his beloved wife of 43 years, Linda Conley Aliberti; three daughters, Carol Kerekes of New Haven, CT; Linda (Kenneth) Willard of Rapid City, SD; Leisha Aliberti of Meriden, CT; a stepdaughter, Nicole (Jonathan)Satcher of Seattle Washington and five grandchildren.

He also leaves many loving and loyal caregivers who all greatly enriched his life lived with dementia; Daphne Graham, Leslie Ramsay, Norma Peak-Placey, Connie Bishop, Kim Campbell, Wendy Patoine, Francine Bowman, Earl Brock, Lois Merwin, Heather Hofmann, Jackie Hatch, Angela Zambon, Lucy Domina, Betty Cloutier, and Michelle Allard.
He was predeceased by a son, Steven Vincent Aliberti, a sister, Rose Hopkins, and caregivers, David Plachetzki and Gina Paye.
