Bath , NH – Vincent Edward Gormley, 86, of Joy Road, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, New Hampshire.
Vincent was born in Orange, New Jersey, August 21, 1933, the son of Edward A. and Grace A. (White) Gormley.
After attending Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, New Jersey, Vincent graduated from Carteret High School, where he was elected senior class president. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business from the University of New Mexico, where he was student body president and listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. He earned a master's degree, Magna Cum Laude, in business administration from the University of Oklahoma.
Vincent served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1956 to his retirement as full Colonel in July 1982. During his military career of 26 years, he served in numerous command positions such as director of operations at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and base commander at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Gwinn, Michigan. He was a jet pilot—flying, among other planes, the FB-111 Aardvark. Vincent did a three-year tour with NATO in Vicenza, Italy.
Vincent was decorated with the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal in Vietnam with several Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters for valor and bravery. Over the years, he was also awarded many other honors and commendations.
Vincent was a devout Roman Catholic and was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Nashua, New Hampshire. In earlier years, he enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Roberta J. Gormley of Bath; two sons Matthew M. Gormley and wife Sandra of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Brian E. Gormley and wife Patricia of Hooksett, New Hampshire; daughter Cynthia A. O'Donnell and husband Bernard of Gray, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Monday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. with the Holy Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, New Hampshire.
A Latin Mass will be offered Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville, New Hampshire, with Father John Brancich, FSSP from St. Stanislaus Catholic Church officiating.
Burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, New Hampshire, Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please arrange for Masses to be offered in Vincent's memory.
