Groton, VT Walter George Spicer Main, 92, of Scott Highway, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, April 18, 2008. He was born in Barre, VT, on February 22, 1916, a son of Walter and Ann (Birnie) Main. He graduated from Groton High School Class of 1933. For 37 years he was a rural mail carrier in Groton and South Ryegate. He was a 69 year member of the Groton United Methodist Church, where he had also served as a trustee. He was a member of the Groton Historical Society, a member for over 60 years of the Pulaski Lodge # 58 F&AM of Wells River where he is a Past Master and Warden, and a member of the St. Andrew s Society in Barre. He was a proud first generation Scot. Spicer enjoyed traveling, taking multiple trips to Arizona, Europe and a cruise in the Caribbean. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days, as- well-as remodeling their home. He loved playing golf. He was married to Dorothy Pierce on May 7, 1938. Survivors include his wife of 69 years Dorothy of Groton, two daughters Ann Winter and husband Owen of Barre, VT and Susan Page and husband Gordon of Cottonwood, AZ; a son Jon P. Main of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Jon Winter, Melissa Mauro, and Steven Page; five great grandchildren, Dustyn, Logan, and Kaylin Thomas, Taylor Winter, and Christian Page. He was predeceased by his siblings Mary Ford, Bernice MacKay, James, Stanley, and Charles Main. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service at the Groton United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, April 26, at 11 AM with Pastor Candace Ricker officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
