West Barnet, VT- Wayne Kevin Achilles, 58, formerly of West Barnet and currently of White Oak, GA, died unexpectedly at his home in Barnet on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.

Wayne was born on August 22, 1955, in St. Johnsbury, VT, to Wendell and Alice Margaret (Faris) Achilles. He was a 1973 graduate of Danville High School. He was the owner and operator of Achilles Auto Repair. Wayne was a member of the Barnet Fire Department and Rescue Squad from 1975 to 2014. He also worked for CALEX and Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital ambulance services. For several years Wayne worked for the Caledonia County Sheriff's Department and served as the Barnet Constable. Wayne was a member of Access Church in Jacksonville, FL and belonged to the Gideon's International. He loved sugaring and was a past president of the Caledonia County Sugarmakers Association. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, playing games with his family, playing the fiddle, riding motorcycles, and tinkering on whatever needed to be fixed.

Wayne married Laurene "Lori" Sidell on February 24, 1979 and she predeceased him on February 15, 2011. He was also predeceased by his father, Wendell Achilles on March 8, 1974, his mother, Margaret Achilles Davidson on February 8, 2013, and by a brother, Donald N. Achilles in July 2008.

He is survived by his wife Ginny (Kinerson) Achilles, to whom he was married on May 6, 2011; four children, Kristine L. Aseltine and husband Rev. Johnny Aseltine, Andrew S. Achilles, Jennifer H. Chumbes and husband Renzo, and Danielle E. Achilles; nine grandchildren, Tori, Katie, Johnny, Abi, and Ellie Aseltine, Nathaniel, Andre, and Sofia Chumbes; and Drew Achilles; eleven step-children, Heidi Butler, Jonathan Steele and wife Rebekah, Christopher Steele, Ruthanne Hogaki and husband Hiro, Betsy Johnson and husband Joseph, Hannah Olander and husband Ryan, Mary Ellen Steele, Patience Reynolds and husband Chet, Charles Steele, Philip Steele, and Richard Gray; six step- grandchildren, Coleman and Katie Butler, Ariella and Azariah Hogaki, Emma Johnson, and Anastasia Olander; three brothers, Raymond S. Achilles and wife Paula, Marvin K. Achilles and wife Dorothy, and Robert D. Achilles and wife Zetta; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 31, at 3 PM at the Union Baptist Church, 932 US 5, Waterford, VT, with Pastor Joel Battaglia and Rev. Johnny Aseltine officiating. Following the service, there will be a time of visitation until 7 PM.

Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
