Monroe, NH- Willard Earl "Bill" Newton, Sr., 77, of Winchester Drive, died on Wednesday July 25, 2018, at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH.
Bill was born in Littleton, NH on May 6, 1941, to James and Ruth (Celley) Newton and graduated from Littleton High School, Class of 1959. He was in the US Navy from 1963-1967.
For many years, Bill worked as a mechanic for Von's Auto in Littleton. He was also employed as the custodian for the Monroe Consolidated School for nearly twenty years.
Bill belonged to the Littleton VFW Post. He enjoyed NASCAR, woodworking, and working on classic cars. Along with his wife, Edna, he did quilting and together, they displayed their quilts and participated in local craft fairs. When his sons were young, he coached Little League baseball and served as the scorekeeper for many grade school basketball games.
Bill is survived by his wife, Edna (Sanborn) Newton of Monroe; three sons, Kenneth Newton and wife Adrian of Auburn, NH, Bob Newton and wife Kerry of Merrimack, NH, and Willard Newton, Jr. of Winooski, VT; four grandchildren, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Angelina, and Andrew; three siblings, Betsy, Edna, and Vaughan; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by two siblings, Jim and Jeannette.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 31st from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, August 1st at 11 AM at Ricker Funeral Home, with Melissa Gould serving as Funeral Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Monroe Village Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
