North Haverhill, NH William George Burroughs, Sr., 87, formerly of Moore Hill Road, Newbury, VT, died April 18, 2010, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH. He was born in Newbury, VT, March 25, 1923, a son of Ralph E. and Jessie Louise (Orser) Burroughs. He attended Newbury Graded School and Newbury High School. On September 20, 1945, he married Bertha Rollins. A lifelong Newbury resident, he was a farmer, logger and truck driver in the area and worked at the Four Corners Farm for 15 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, bird-watching, and taking rides. He listened to country music and attended square dances in West Newbury for many years. He had been a 4-H leader. Each morning he looked forward to connecting with his CB friends. Every spring he hosted a sugar on snow party for his family. Survivors include his wife of 64 years Bertha (Rollins) Burroughs of North Haverhill, NH; four daughters, Mary Lou Boyce and husband David of Wells River, VT, Jean Welch and husband Ronald of Wells River, Linda Farquharson and husband Robert of Groton, VT, and Susan Burroughs of Newbury; two sons, William Burroughs, Jr. and wife Bonnie of Woodsville, and Leonard Burroughs and wife Susan of South Ryegate, VT, 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Andrea Raye Emerson on January 3, 2000; a sister Elsie Hall; three brothers, Robert O., John R., and Rex P. Burroughs. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 6 to 8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 21, at 1 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Townhouse Cemetery, Newbury, VT.
