Obituary

Bow, NH Lt. Col. (USAF Ret.) William Saunders Hall, 83, formerly of Mountain Lakes, died on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at his home. He was born in New Haven, CT, September 22, 1930, the son of William Joseph and Isabella Anne (O Keefe) Hall. William graduated from Boston Latin High School and attended Tufts University. He married Rosemary Barella on February 25, 1956. He served with the USAF and retired as a Lt. Colonel on January 31, 1975 with 24 years of service. After retiring from the service, he became a certified Drivers Education Instructor and began teaching at Woodsville High School in the fall of 1976, retiring in 1993. He was the former owner of Monteau Ski Area in Mountain Lakes for 6 years. William and his family moved from Mountain Lakes to Easton in 1985. After their retirement William and Rosemary traveled extensively around the U.S. in their fifth- wheel travel trailer, traveling as far away as Alaska. When he was in the service, he would travel around Europe with his family in a small camper. They wintered in Ocala, FL and later lived there full time. Throughout the years he would arrange Hall Weekend as it was affectionately known with the family. It originally began at Indian Head Resort and later moved to York Beach, ME. He loved being a ham radio operator. William and Rosemary attended St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Woodsville and later the Lady of the Snows in Franconia, NH. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Rosemary Hall on May 23, 1999; a son, James P. Hall on May 13, 1979; and a sister, Anne O Brien. Survivors include his two daughters, Wendy A. Dione and husband David of Concord, NH and Susan M. Edgerly and husband Robert of Newton, NH; three sons, William J. Hall and wife Dara of Columbia, CT, Peter M. Hall and wife Jennifer of Campton, NH, and George Corey and family of Altus, OK; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, from 5 to 7 PM at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 31, at 11 AM at the St. Joseph s Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville, NH. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph s Catholic Cemetery in Bath, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
