Obituary

Bath, NH William Siegmund, 84, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH. William was born in Brooklyn, NY, April 6, 1925, the son of William and Bertha (Hoelman) Siegmund. He graduated from high school and New York University in New York City. William married Irene Virginia Meyer on May 23, 1945. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II from March 4, 1943 to April 14, 1946, serving on the USS LST 176, USS LST 175, USS LST 261, and USS LST 213. He worked around the Long Island and New York City area, before moving to Bath, NH, with his family. William and Irene built their home on Monroe Road and he took great pride in the appearance of their home and landscape. He worked as a correctional officer at the Windsor, VT County Correctional Facility and was an officer for the Haverhill Police Department. William was the Co-Administrator, with his wife Irene, at the Grafton County Nursing Complex from November, 1969 until Irene s retirement in 1981. He continued as the Administrator from 1981 until his retirement in June, 1990. William was a past member of Ross Wood Post #20 American Legion of Woodsville, NH and VFW Post #5245 of North Haverhill, NH, and is a member of United States LST Association. He was a very loving and devoted husband and father. He had a strong work ethic and was an accomplished gentleman. Mr. Siegmund was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Irene V. Siegmund on December 10, 2007; a daughter, Karen Siegmund on August 23, 1999; and a sister, Lois Hofer. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 11 AM, at the Horsemeadow Cemetery, North Haverhill, NH. It is requested that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions may be made to the Cottage Hospital, PO Box 2001, Woodsville, NH 03785.
