Obituary

North Haverhill, NH Winthrop Woodman Wimp Klark, 88, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at the Grafton County Nursing Home. Winthrop was born July 18, 1925, the son of Perley N. and Frances (Blakebrough) Klark. He was raised in Woodsville, NH and graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1943. Following high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and served proudly as a B-25 bomber pilot. As part of Winthrop s pilot training, he attended Mt. Union College in Alliance, OH. He and Thelma Beaton of Woodsville, NH were married on April 21, 1945 in Enid, OK. Winthrop worked for Armour & Company in Woodsville for many years, and later was self-employed as a health and beauty aids distributor. He gave freely of his time and talents for his family and community, having served as a Woodsville Fire District commissioner for 13 years and a Haverhill selectman for 6 years. Winthrop was instrumental in rescuing the Woodsville Opera House curtain, which is now restored and displayed in Alumni Hall in Haverhill, NH, as well as the land purchase and construction of Woodsville s Water Treatment Plant. He and Thelma moved to Brooksville, FL in 1981. Winthrop worked as transportation coordinator for Mid-Florida Community Services, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Woodsville United Methodist Church and attended the Wesleyan Church in Brooksville, FL. He always had a love of flying, and it was quite a treat for him to take a tour over central Florida in a Stearman bi-plane while in his early eighties. Besides aviation, he enjoyed birds of prey, reading, big band music, sports and spending time with his family. He was a proud grampa and great grampa. He was predeceased by his son, John Klark, on January 13, 2012; and a son-in-law, Rodney Mann, on December 13, 2012. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Thelma Klark; three daughters, Joanne Mann and Amy Wright and her husband Allen, both of Woodsville, NH and Lindsay Trombley and her husband Alfred of Candia, NH; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Kidder and her husband Donald, and Jackie Estes; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Grafton County Nursing Home for their compassionate and excellent care of Dad. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Tuesday, August 27, at 11 AM at the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH with Rev. George Hemway, Chaplain at the Grafton County Nursing Home officiating. A private burial will be in the Center Haverhill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the John and Janet Klark Memorial Scholarship Fund, Christian Harness Horsemen s Association, 157 North Main Street, Salem, NH 03079; or the Grafton County Home Association, 3855 Dartmouth College Highway, North Haverhill, NH 03774.
